ban incandescent light bulbs?

February 24th, 2007

It’s a hot topic right now (har har) in Australia and would be an interesting precedent.  They’d be the first to ban them completely.  I can’t wait to see what happens.

Interested in a comparison between them?  Check it out here.

I personally hate the light given off by CFLs. Recently Ontario has been considering a similar ban, but hopefully the latest developments by GE (http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/27/ge-develops-high-efficiency-incandescent-bulbs/) will provide an satisfactory alternative. Otherwise I may just have to smuggle some into Canada ;-)

When we can solve the global poverty issue, including our issues in Canada - then we can tackle banning incandescent light bulbs. Until such time, most poor people will spend $0.79 at Wal-Mart on incandescent light bulbs vs. buying the more environmentally friendly ones for $4 a pop.

In general, I’m not sure it’s poor people burning all the energy. I’m sure they are very aware of their power consumption, from a financial standpoint.

[…] As a result of a comment by k-fleXxX in a previous post, I realize just how little I do for social causes. I’m certainly not speaking for everyone, but I’m a relatively aware person but do not actively participate in or donate to social causes. I am guessing that most of my peers are in a similar position. It’s a sad state of affairs. […]
